Street Department responsibilities include:
Pot Hole Repair:
To report a hazardous pot hole, please call the Street Department.
Snow Removal:
A crew remains on alert during the winter months to respond to snow build up on streets as promptly as possible. The main priorities are the state routes, followed by highly traveled connector roads, followed by residential areas. We ask that our citizens be patient during a snow event.
During snow emergencies, please remove vehicles parked along city's streets to enable the plows can get as close to the curb as possible. If your car is parked on a snow emergency route, it must be moved when 2" or more snow accumulates in a 24-hour period. Failure to move your vehicle may result in ticketing or towing.
Please do not shovel or plow your driveway and/or sidewalk into the street.
Lights:
We ensure the city's traffic lights are in working condition. If you notice an outage please call the Police Dispatcher immediately at 740-852-1414. Street lights are are the responsibility of Ohio Edison, and to report a street light outage please call Ohio Edison at 1-888-544-4877.
Yard Waste:
The city provides free yard waste removal. If you would like to take advantage of this service please call the City Administration office at 740-852-3243 to schedule a pick-up time. The yard waste must be bagged. Bio-degradable bags are preferred.
As a note: Per city ordinance, do not put grass clippings, yard waste or other debris onto roadways.
Brush Chipping:
The Street Department will come to your residence to chip tree branches and brush and, if needed, haul it away. The brush must be placed where the Street Department will not have to enter your property.
The fee for this service is $50 per half hour and must be paid before any work can be completed. If the job takes longer than the paid for half hour, you will be billed for the remainder. Payments are taken at the City Administration office, suite 100 inside City Hall.

Other responsibilities of the Street Department:
Roadkill removal, mowing city property, removing clogs in drainage ditches and maintaining catch basins and the storm sewers.
