Youth Winter Basketball League

Registration dates and fees:

●       Registrations are being accepted beginning September 27th, 2024.

●       September 27th to October 27th the registration fee is $85 per child.

●       October 28th to November 3rd a late fee of $10.00 will be added.

●       Registration fee after November 3rd will have a $25 late fee added.

●       Player evaluations will be November 4th-7th. Time is TBD

Registrations forms are available at the following locations:

●       London City Hall Offices, 20 S. Walnut Street at the front door and can be dropped in the night deposit. You may also download a registration and drop it off or mail it to City of London, 20 S. Walnut Street, Suite 107, London, Ohio 43140 – Attn: Youth Volleyball

●       You can register and pay online by using the "Register Online" button at the top of this page.

Try-Outs:

●       Evaluations – November 4th-7th. Time is TBD.

●       Each player will be assessed based on their skill level and assigned to a team.

●       Teams will be divided by skill level. It is our goal to assign each participant to a team to create a common competitive environment for all teams and participants. Requests cannot be guaranteed.

Practices & games:

●       Practices will begin, TENTATIVELY, the week of November 11th, 2024 @ Multiple Gyms throughout London

●       Season will wrap up towards the end of January with a tournament

●       Practice times will vary, depending on the venue.

●       Games will take place at London Elementary School gyms on Sunday afternoons, and throughout the week if needed

Games could start as early as 1:00pm on Sundays

Divisions

**This is tentative, depending on the number of Registrations**

Division I: Grades  4th, 5th & 6th

·        Participants will shoot on a 10ft basket

·        Normal free-throw line distance

·        The clock continues to run if a team is 10 points ahead.

·        Will use a 28.5-inch basketball

·        The following guideline will be used to extend man-to-man defense past the 3-point line

Games 1-4: Man-to-Man defense inside the 3-point line only

Games 5-6: Man-Man defense can extend to half court for the last 5 minutes of the game

Games 7, 8 &Tournament: Man-Man defense can extend to half court for the last quarter of the game.

Division II: Grades 2nd & 3rd

·        Participants will shoot on a 9ft basket

·        Games will run sideways, with 2 games playing at a time.

·        Normal free-throw will be 3 ft in front of the regulation free-throw line

·        Clock continues to run if a team is 10 points ahead of the other.

·        Will use a 27.5-inch basketball

·        The following guideline will be used to extend man-to-man defense past the 3-point line

Games 1-4: Man-to-Man defense inside the 3-point line only

Games 5-6: Man-Man defense can extend to half court for the last 2 minutes of the game

Games 7, 8 &Tournament: Man-Man defense can extend to half court for the last 5 minutes of the game

 

Division III: Kindergarten & Grade 1st

·        Participants will shoot on an 8ft basket

·        Games will run sideways, with 2 games playing at a time.

·        Normal free-throw will be 7ft in front of the regulation free-throw line

·        Clock continues to run if a team is 10 points ahead of the other.

·        Will use a 25.5-inch basketball

·        Colored wristbands will be worn to help players identify who they should be guarding during normal offense/defense

All Divisions must adhere to the following rules:

·        There will be 10-minute quarters with a running clock. The clock will stop running at dead ball whistles during the last minute of the game.

·        There will be a 1-minute clock in between quarters to help with matchups

·        There will be a 3-minute half time.

·        Each team receives 3 timeouts. All timeouts will be 30 seconds

·        Teams must play man-to-man inside the 3-point line unless specified in the division rules

·        Defensive players cannot steal the ball from the ball handler.

·        Teams cannot hold the ball if a team is guarding inside the 3-point line. They must continue to try to score

·        Overtime will consist of each team shooting foul shots until there is a winner.

·        Shooting fouls will consist of one free throw attempt and one automatic point for team on offense

·        Anything after 5 fouls per quarter for a team will result in a free throw attempt and automatic point for the other team.

·        Fouls will follow the OHSAA rules of 5 fouls. A coach’s 1st technical of the league results in sitting the rest of the game. A possible warning with a two-game suspension may accompany the technical depending on degree of flagrancy. The 2nd technical results in the league suspension and possible permanent suspension from coaching and possible no trespass from the program and facility.

·        Player 1st technical results in sitting the rest of the half. The 2nd technical will result in missing the next game. A 3rd technical will result in removal from the league.

·        Playing time for players will follow the chart below. Failure to follow the chart below will result in forfeiting the game and possible suspension for the head coach.
